While descending the Fuchslochsteig on the Rax, an alpinist lost his footing in a climbing passage, fell several meters and remained lying there seriously injured. A rescue operation by helicopter was not possible due to the wind conditions and fog. The mountain rescue team climbed to the scene with the planned rescue equipment and provided medical care for the person who had fallen. Once the patient had been stabilized, he was roped down over several hundred metres of steep rocky and craggy terrain using a special stretcher and a special mountain system. Below the high fog line, the patient was rescued by the emergency helicopter using a rope and then flown to hospital. Nine mountain rescuers from the Mürzzuschlag local unit, three officers from the Hochsteiermark Alpine Police and the ÖAMTC emergency helicopter were deployed.
