Two Hungarian climbers got lost on the Reißtalersteig on the Rax. Just below the exit, they strayed off from the fixed rope route and climbed an extremely steep snow slope. After they could neither move forward nor back, they made an emergency call. Due to the excellent cooperation with the alpine police Hochsteiermark as well as with the flight operation center Graz four mountain rescuers and an alpine policeman could be set down by helicopter transfer above the alpinists at about 1,800m above sea level. An abseil point has then be established to reach those waiting in the steep terrain. They were secured and abseiled down to the foot of the wall with the support of two mountain rescuers. Despite the awkward situation, the two climbers, already hypothermic but uninjured, were rescued. See photos.
