March 8th, 1896 was the key date of the Austrian Montain Rescue. Because of an serious accident on the Rax mountain all members of the mountain clubs decided to build an alpine rescue institution. So called "local sites" has been established, in the same year also the montain rescue team (MRT) of Mürzzuschlag, a member team of the Austrian Montain Rescue. 1906 there were already 173 rescue teams in the Eastern Alps active.

26.4.22:Operation on the Stuhleck

16.3.24: Mission on the Rax
During our planned lift exercise on the Stuhleck, we were alerted to an operation on the Rax. 3 people were undertaking a mountain tour on the Rax. The group arrived at the Karl-Ludwig-Haus at 2:15 p.m., but the weather became increasingly bad due to rising fog and wind. Despite the bad weather, the group decided to descend further and took a wrong turn, which led to rugged and steep terrain. At around 16:00, they made an emergency call and the police helicopter was notified. Due to the bad weather, however, no rescue activities could be undertaken. An alpine police officer and 17 comrades from our local station climbed up to the already hypothermic and severely weakened people. When the advance team, consisting of the alpine policeman and two mountain rescuers, came across the three people, they were given first aid. The whole group then descended together and the rescuers accompanied them down to the valley. All persons remained uninjured. See photos

29.12.23: Mission on the Rax
Just below the Karl-Ludwig-Haus, a ski tourer suddenly felt chest pains and collapsed lifeless shortly afterwards. Despite immediate reanimation by fellow tourers and subsequently by the crew of the Christophorus 15 rescue helicopter, the ski tourer died. As it was not possible to recover the ski tourer due to the windy conditions, it had to be transported with akja over the Karlgraben and then to the Preiner Gscheid. Thanks also to the assistance of a member of the Reichenau mountain rescue team, the Alpine police, the Libelle helicopter of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Christophorus 15 rescue helicopter.
26.12.23: Half a century of active mountain rescuers
